The 57th Idea Filmfare Awards 2010-South ceremony honouring the best South Indian films of 2009 was held grandly on August 7th, 2010 in Chennai. The awards in 40 categories were given to Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films.SS Rajamouli’s prestigious film ‘Magadheera’ walked away with six Filmfare awards for Best Film, Best Actor (Ram Charan Tej), Best Director(SS Rajamouli), Best Cinematography(Senthil Kumar), Best Music(MM Keeravani) and Best Playback Singer-Male(Anuj Guruwara). Whilethe best actress award was bagged by Anushka for her role in ‘Arundhati’, the special jury award had gone to Yuvan Shankar Raja for his music in ‘Oye’.
On other hand, ‘Nadodigal’ won the Best Film award in Tamil, while Prakash Raj won the Best Actor award for his performance in ‘Kancheevaram’ and Priyadarshan won the Best Director award for the same film.
This time the Lifetime Achievement award was given to two persons-Kannada actor Ambareesh and Malayalam thespian KPAC Lalitha.
The film ‘Varudu’ is all set to hit the screens tomorrow and while the expectations are high on it, even the curiosity levels are equally high. The reason for that happens to be the identity of the heroine which has been kept under wraps and as of now, we know that she is a new beauty and hails from Amritsar in Punjab.However, this has also given rise to another talk. Many are now taking the example of the film ‘Oy’ wherein the face of Shamili was kept under wraps till the release. After it was unveiled, many loathed her flabby look and the film also sank at the box office. Now, the same element of risk threatens ‘Varudu’.
However, some say that director Gunasekhar has got an eye for the women so his choice of actresses is usually beautiful. But this is Tollywood and anything can happen here so all are keeping their fingers crossed to see what is going to happen with the leading lady of this one.
K Raghavendra Rao’s son Prakash has begun working for his debut mainstream film as director. This fantasy flick stars handsome hero Siddardh and the movie was formally launched on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Cinemax Multiplex in Hyderabad. K Raghavendra Rao, Rajamouli, director Krish and others attended the ceremony. Rajamouli heaped praise on Prakash. “I was to direct a film with him as hero but the film could not take place but I know his ideas. He has many great scripts and I may snatch one of them for my future films. Although he is new breed of filmmakers, he does have strong hold on the raw Indian emotions. I am sure that he would become better filmmaker than his father Raghavendra Rao like Raghavendra Rao out surpassed his father K S Praksh’s name and fame,” Rajamouli wished.
Siddardh said: “Before I stepped into Telugu films, I wished to act in Raghavendra Rao’s films. After I have started doing films in Telugu, I realized that a hero should act in Rajamouli’s films in order to get that mass hero status. In the recent times, Krish’s work impressed me. Although these three directors didn’t give me chance, I am glad to act in Prakash’s film. In my opinion, Prakash is sum of all these three talents.”
Director Prakash said he considers Annamayya and Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari are the best films among his father repertoire. “I loved the fantasy element in Jagadeeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari, so I wanted to use that angle in my film. We are also taking this film into Hindi,” he revealed.
As Elections have come to an end, producers heave big sigh of relief. For, they are now ready to release their new movies. With so much focus on elections, Tollywood producers postponed their films to May from April/March. From May Day, many big and small movies are hitting. Among the big movies, Balakrishna’s Mitrudu, Ravi Teja’s Kick, Siddardh’s Oy are hitting in May. Here is schedule of the summer releases..

The shooting of Siddharth’s latest film Oy is complete but for three songs. National award winning child actress Shamilee is making her debut as heroine with this movie. Anand Ranga makes his debut as director. The remaining three songs will be shot in Australia and Chennai. Music composed by Yuan Shankar Raja will be launched in the first week of May. Producer Danayya is planning to release in the first week of June.

Oye is the latest flick of Siddharth is coming up with another romantic entertainer.It is directed by debutant Anand, has almost finished its shooting part except for two songs and a 10 days balance talkie part. This romantic movie is shot in a poetic style and has an unusual climax. It introduces yesteryears' child artiste Shamili (of Anjali fame) as heroine. This is her first movie in a leading role in any language. This teenager is going to be the main attraction. Produced by D Danaiah, the film is slated for May end release.
