Tollywood is going through severe stress and an unknown fear factor as producers are willing to get their movies ready for release with in December 2010 at any cost. Yes, it is all the effect of srikrishna Report and the Telangana issue.Although November and December have a flurry of releases, the situation that is to prevail in Tollywood after December 30, 2010 is unpredictable. In any case, if the Report comes against to the wishes of Telangana, entire Film industry will have to suffer an irrecoverable loss as Tollywood is one major sector T-forces are to target upon and so the new fear started to grip.
With Pongal releases like Parama Veera Chakra, Nenu Naa Rakshasi, Mirapakai, Mr. Perfect queued up, veteran film maker Tammareddy Bharadwaj feels like it is tough to escape the Telangana wave this time. ‘Time by which the Telangana issue will be resolved will decide the amount of pain Tollywood will have to go through, if Srirkishna comes against the wish of Telangana people. Surely, the situations in Telangana will not be the same and we shall be prepared for the worst,’ feels Tammareddy. Be optimistic and let us wish that everything settles down peacefully.
In fact, the idea for RGV’s maiden film, Shiva, came from rowdy politics in the Vijayawada city but he made the movie in the backdrop of Hyderabad for wider reach. Now he focuses on the city where he did Engineering course. Cast and other crew will be announced shortly.
RGV on this film
“I have long association with the city of Vijaywada. I have been closely watching the city’s rowdies and their wars since I studied Engineering course in Siddhartha Engineering College. Indeed genesis for Shiva came from the rowdy wars in the city but Shiva would be pale in comparison with the movie that I am going to shoot now. The Hyderabad rowdies are nothing in front of the organized crime mentality of Vijaywada rowdies. After showing Mumbai Mafia and Rayalaseema Factionism on silver screen, I am going to expose Vijaywada world of rowdies. We are in the final stages of scripting of the film,” RGV said in a press note. Source:TeluguCInema
Robo, Mahesh Khaleja, Komaram Puli and Brindavanam are the four big films that are going to be released soon. Komaram Puli which was supposed to release on 11 August is yet to be released. Though the next tentative date is 3 September, the release on that day is unlikely. Some people are saying that it might release in the second week of September and some others are saying that the release might happen in the first week of October. Since Komaram Puli and Khaleja are produced and distributed by S Ramesh and Allu Arvind respectively, there will be a healthy distance of at least 3 weeks between these two films. The music of Brindavanam is going to be released on 3 of September. The movie release is expected to be the in the last week of September. Though Robo date is confimed on 23 September, there are rumors that it might be postponed to Dasara which will fall in the second week of October. It’s going to be an uncertain time for the releases in the next month. Lets hope that all these four big films will released with a healthy gap.

2010 has so far been good for Telugu cinema despite the success ratio has not increased. What is good sign for the industry is that very few big films lost money and there is also trend of small films getting good mileage. Balakrishna’s Simha stands as biggest blockbuster this year so far. At the end of six months, the final hits and misses in Tollywood are as follows.Blockbuster (s)
1. Simha
Collections: Biggest hit so far and might end up in the range of Rs 30 -35 Crores.
Cost to producer: About 18 Crores
Profit/Loss ratio: Producer Parachuri Prasad (his son Kiriti is official producer though) safely released the movie despite track-record of flops. He made huge money after the release and cleared off all the losses he did with earlier movies. Distributors got the biggest profit ever in the recent times thanks to lower price for a big star movie. Distributor in Guntur made huge profits. Interestingly, distributor of Nizam too had big laugh, although traditionally Nizam is considered weak territory for Balakrishna. Producer sold off satellite rights (Rs 3 Crore) to Maa Tv before the release, if he had sold it off the film released, it could have gone for more than Rs 5 Cr.
Hits
1. Adurs
Cost to producer: Rs 26 Crores (budget exceeded thanks to delay in the production)
Profit/Loss ratio: Collected nearly Rs 30 Crores. Collections affected badly in Nizam after the controversies. Some distributors did profits in coastal Andhra district – like Nellore, Guntur. Others lost. Producers kept Nizam area and it brought only losses for them. Satellite Rights (Rs 4Crores) fetched big money to the producer.
2. Ye Maaya Chesave
Cost to producer: Made at a budget of Rs 10 Crore.
Profit/Loss ratio: Vizag distributor minted money. It created some records there. In Hyderabad too, it collected good money. On total, the movie went on to collect Rs 12 - 15 Crores. If it was not released in exams period, it would have collected more.
3. Darling
Cost to producer: Rs 18 Crores
Profit/Loss ratio: Initial talk was not encouraging but the film went on to become score good collections. It brought relief to its main distributor Dil Raju who lost heavily in other recent movies. In Nizam area, he nearly made Rs 4 Crores profit excluding his investment. In Vizag (Uttarandhra), Guntur, Godavari area too it collected well. Profit for distributors. |
4. Betting Bangarraju
Cost to producer: Rs 6 Crores
Profit/Loss ratio: Movie is completely distributed by Ramoji Rao’s Mayuri distributors and the producer made a cool Rs 4 Crores profit when we include satellite price too (which again taken by ETV).
Break-Even Movies
1. Leader
Made at Rs 11 Crs, the film finally able to recover the cost with satellite rights included. If it were made at much lower budget considering not a star cast that demands high remuneration, it would have been a hit financially.
2. Sambho Siva Sambho
Made at 14 Crores, the film was profitable venture for producer Bellamkonda even before its release. It lost heavily in Nizam and overseas but ran good in B and C centres. It is not a profitable film for distributors, nor they did loss on it much.
3. Bindaas
Bindaas had decent run but is not a profitable venture for producer as its budget is much more than the Manoj’s market. But again in Manoj’s career, it is better-collected movie and can be said average.
Current status on current movies..
1. Vedam
Vedam released to positive reviews but not really lapped up by the general public. It is a big hit for overseas distributor. But in Andhra Pradesh, distributors might loss despite good haul in the first week. Collections dropped drastically. It is still running so, the final result will be gauged only later. Reportedly made at Rs 16 Crores budget, producers could sell off handsomely before the release as it was touted to be multi-starrer with Allu Arjun and Anushka. Producers also made money by getting great price from Satellite rights (Rs 4 Crs).
2. Golimaar
Golimaar was panned by many and openings were poor compared to Puri’s earlier movies but it is drawing some good collections. Few more days will decide its real fate. Flop or break even. Made at Rs 14 Crore and sold in the same region, it needs another two or three weeks solid run.
Big Flops (means nearly total washouts)
1. Maro Charitra (Dil Raju did lost even print costs on this movie)
2. Varudu (Good first week but then utter flop)
3. KD (Producer almost lost 8 to 10 Crores)
Flops (but not so big losses)
1. Namo Venkatesha
2. Rama Rama Krishna Krishna
Films sank without a trace
1. Om Shanti
2. Seetharamula Kalyanam Lankalo
3. Taj Mahal
4. Young India
Critical praise, producers lost
1. Prasthanam (The film won rave reviews, but it didn’t fetch money for producer.)
2. Andari Bandhuvaya

Telugu filmmakers are looking at B-town for inspiration, scripts and hits. The trend was put on back burner by T-town dream merchants after Shankardada Zindabad (a remake of Lage Raho Munnabhai) flopped, but Billa (a remake of Don) which hit the screens last year did good BO biz. In 2010, three B-town hits – Love Aaj Kal, Race and 3 Idiots – will be remade in Telugu. However, the Telugu filmmakers have chosen three different genres for the remakes and all the films are expected to be star-studded.Love Aaj Kal’s Telugu version has just been launched amid a lot of fanfare. Pawan Kalyan who essays the lead role in the LAJK remake is doing a romantic film after many years (Tholi Prema and Kushi). For director Jayanth, it will be his second Hindi remake after Shankardada MBBS (a remake of Munnabhai MBBS which was a sensational success). “I wanted to do a film with Pawan in 1998, am able to do so only now. Though we are remaking LAJK, we have made a lot of changes in the storyline, but retained the soul of the original,” he says. Deepika Padukone and Samantha are being considered for the female lead’s role.
An inside source in the production house that’s remaking the edge-of-the-seat Race starring Ravi Teja, says the film isn’t a frame-to-frame copy and there will be some “changes”. The remake of 3 Idiots which has been on the cards for a while now, might happen too. A leadingproduction house is likely to pay a whopping amount for the rights. Reportedly, Pawan Kalyan and other big stars have watched it, but the cast hasn’t been finalised yet.
Not all remakes are BO winners. Director Vijayabhaskar couldn’t make a winner out of Bhale Dongalu, (a remake of Bunty Aur Babli). “When it comes to remakes, our work is doubled as we need to make the right amount of changes to suit the taste of the local audience without diluting the emotional quotient of the original,” he says.
Well…you win some and you lose some as they say!

In an attempt to cut down the production costs, Andhra Pradesh Producer’s Council has taken bold step. In an urgent meeting convened today (Apr 22, 2010), the council put break to six big films that are about to begin the shoot from May. Films that are stopped are: Venkatesh’s Nagamalli (remake of Apta Rakshaka), Ram Charan – Dharani’s film, Ram – Surender Reddy’s flick, Sumanth – Colors Swathi movie, Dil Raju – Prabhas and Suresh Babu’s another film. All these producers have taken the decision collectively. Only after coming conclusion to what steps should be taken to cut down the production costs, these films would begin its shoot.
Brahmanandam reprimanded
Top comedian Brahmandam’s unprofessional attitude is also seriously discussed during the meeting. His cheap and greedy behaviour like ordering ‘parcels of food’ to his entire family from ‘Ohri’s Restaurant’ and handing over the bill to the producers in whichever shoot participates is reprimanded by the producers. They have decided to put an end to his cheap demands. His use of ‘company vehicle’ liberally and putting vehicle conveyance bill to the producers has been the main concern for producers.
Producers have now decided to curtail some of the big pay cheques to other stars too.

Yes, this will be a different treat from Vimala for her admirers who have watched her as a girl in simple, docile roles. All set to try something new, she will be co – starring Jagapathi Babu in the movie. But the damsel defines herself for wearing thes trendy outfits arguing that an NRI girl couldn’t possibly wear traditional clothes. She will also have a bikini scene in the film, if the rumours are to be believed. Speaking of bikinis, she will also be seen in a bikini for her Telugu film, Lover Boy, which stars Tarun as the hero. Lover Boy is directed by V.N. Aditya and is produced by Supreme Raju Harwani and Gogineni Srinivas
Meanwhile, she has just finished shooting for Aptha Rakshaka, which also stars late actor Vishnuvardhan. Gayam 2 Movie stills

Staring of the year 2010 many of film makers wished this year may have good movies. Jan,Feb,Mar released movies had not much attracted the people only one movie collected handsome amount while other dropped at box office......The New Year started off with somewhat lesser known movies like ‘Maa Naana Chiranjeevi’ ‘Om Shanti’ ‘Seetaramula Kalyanam’ which turned out to be duds at the box office. It was the arrival of ‘Adhurs’ that changed the tables as box office got cheered up. This was backed up by a decent performance from ‘Namo Venkatesa’ giving the family audience the required entertainment. Another surprise winner was ‘Sambho Siva Sambho’ which was intense and hard hitting.
February saw the arrival of the color ‘Mayabazaar’ which did good business and even the less expected ‘Bindaas’ was declared an above average film.
The biggest disappointment was Nagarjuna with his ‘Kedi’ followed by ‘Inkosari’ from Raja, ‘Kalavar King’ from Nikhil. This was compensated with the super duper hit ‘Ye Maya Chesave’ introducing the latest sensation Samantha.
March was quite dull with not many releases happening and hero Sivaji came up with his ‘Taj Mahal’ which hit the dust in no time. There was also the long pending ‘Akasa Ramanna’ which came and went without notice, the month had its biggest disappointment in the form of ‘Maro Charitra’ by Dil Raju which was a major flop and this was overtaken by another colossal disaster ‘Varudu’ which was meant to be the best opener for the summer releases.
So far, it has been a mixed report on the box office side but for the fact that big stars scored successes. However, many say that this is a better performance compared to last year. This month and May would be quite crucial as there are some real big movies in the pipeline and the Tollywood folks are hoping that they would make up for the losses by the end of first half. Let us wait and see..
